My new ballad CAPTAIN KENGURUSE, MVC goes to an astounding legend of a young Army Captain, on dizzy 16,000’ rarefied Himalayan heights in one of the bloodiest theaters of an unconventional modern war. Kicking off his army boots and socks to climb with bare feet and hands to better grip the icy rock slope to reach the stone bunkers of the entrenched enemy above, the wounded, profusely bleeding soldier continues leading his platoon for victory, putting his life on the line beyond duty’s call.

My release “The Blue Helmets” is dedicated to the courageous unsung heroes of United Nations peacekeeping, who give their lives worldwide to uphold the ideals and principles of the UN Charter for peace, prosperity, and humanity. Growing dangers of peacekeeping have not deterred countries from contributing troops to enable diplomacy to prevail, protecting innocent civilians trapped in conflicts. A Memorial Wall inscribed with the names of thousands of Blue Helmets who have died is long overdue.
India’s contributions since early on in resolving intractable crises as in Korea, Indo-China, the Suez, Lebanon and Congo, helped shape the operational tenets of the UN’s approach to global peacekeeping—a Weltanschauung as it were, inspired by the philosophy of the world as one family and orientation to resolving conflicts through negotiation instead of violence.

My new release ‘Requiem’, with lyrics by Ian Cardozo, goes to a dying soldier on the battlefield, mindful of his “brothers in arms” killed in action. Having lived in the shadow of death, soldiers highly value the precious gift of life, living it to the full during peacetime. A deep love of country and its people, courage, dedication and self-sacrifice inspire soldiers to put “Service Before Self” in maintaining national honour and ensuring citizen-safety. The ballad probes whether the public appreciates the huge debt owed our soldiers.

I wrote this song while viewing the ongoing conflicts across the world, in which ordinary civilians are victims of chance and circumstance, and history appears to be repeating itself. In spite of widespread death and destruction, life always holds out hope as human beings struggle to survive through the darkest times with integrity and dignity.
